The Sidecar (August) by Melia

Ah, the Sidecar.

The name alone emotes images of a pre-WWII era where every man wore a Fedora, women washed their kitchen floor in high heels, and locomotives were king. One can even hear Benny Goodman on the wireless streaming through the airwaves as the typewriter keys echo down the hallways. As I ordered my first classic cocktail, the Sidecar, I was transported into this black and white world of romantic mystery. I was standing at the thresh hold where several generations before had once stood. What would I find as I stepped back in time to taste this concoction of bygone days? Sadly, this is where the black and white movie ended... with a thud. The illusion was broken. My mysterious locomotive crashed as the Sidecar spilled into my mouth. Yuck! Who likes this stuff? How has this drink found itself in the annuls of desirable cocktails? What kind of tastebuds did our grandparents have anyway?

Alright! Maybe I should give a more accurate portrayal of the evening in question. When I ordered the Sidecar, the bartender had never heard of it but his ignorance would not trump my CCCC experience! I was out to have that particular drink and have it I must! So, I did what any self respecting CCCC member would do and called my house to ask the babysitter to look it up in the Bartending for Dummies book that I have in my personal library (every household needs one). Nevermind that she was feeding my six kids dinner and that she needed to tell the recipe to me a few times (the bar was already getting a little loud) as I wrote it on a drink napkin. I needed that recipe. I handed it to the bartender and he set about making my Classy Cocktail. So, the truth be told, I'm not even sure that my Sidecar was properly constructed. All that being said, this was not my favorite drink.

My thoughts on the Sidecar are as follows: a bit on the sour side. It lacks the complexities that a truly fantastic adult beverage should claim. The drink was served in a Martini glass and was garnished with a lemon swirl. It was a nice touch but without a more desirable flourish. Overall, on a scale of 1 to 5, I give it a 2.

Classy Broads, we are officially open!!

I am quite happy with the appearance here, I think this will be an appropriate format to share our adventurous findings.  (Also to plan occasional rendezvous where we will make the extra effort to imbibe together.)

By blogging our tales, we will have a storehouse of information all accessible in one location instead of constantly having to open individual emails.  I suggest adding labels to every post, first naming the drink in question and then naming yourself so that posts can be sorted in both ways.

This will be a fun ride, ladies!!  I will be back tomorrow to blog about our August drink.  After assembling our new home, I am totally fried.  Good night/good morning!  Happy blogging!!
